The Network Engineers at ASCI created the conceptual network design, from the VPN concentrator to the aspects of the one way tunnel originating at each Agency. My role was to help with the deployment of the devices to each agency. After about 10 sites, we discovered that the site design did not adequately work for all agencies. While at the Akron University Police Agency, the site used public IPs internally and therefore did not function with the proposal in place. I proposed a solution to the Network Engineer by way of a mock network. Using a routing device to allow the PIX an alternate network on one interface, we could thereby successfully deploy into this environment as well as all 900 agencies. The Network Engineer speculated this would cause circular routing but reluctantly agreed to move forward with this suggestion since we had no alternatives. After deployment, further review this design was determined to function as required. The conceptual site design was recreated using my solution, all sites already visited were redeployed and all future sites were setup using my proposal.

Outcome:
After visiting nearly 100 agencies, establishing the conceptual network design deployed out to the 900 agencies and creating the web interface that established the config for the devices, I learned a great deal about network architecture and a variety of network devices.
